Professional Board Director/HR Advisor/Author/

After a distinguished career in human resources Libby Sartain is now an active independent board director, business advisor, and volunteer. As head of HR for both Yahoo! Inc. and Southwest Airlines, Sartain led significant business transformation initiatives as a member of executive leadership teams and guided global human resources efforts focusing on attracting, retaining, and developing employees. Her focus has been growth companies where she developed employment brand strategies that helped grow the workforce exponentially while establishing company reputation as a leading employer of choice. Both Yahoo and Southwest were listed on the Fortune 100 Best Companies To Work For in America and the Fortune 500 during her tenure.

Sartain serves on the Board of Directors of ManpowerGroup. (NSYE: MAN).  She was a Director of Peet’s Coffee and Tea, Inc., (Nasdaq: PEET) from 2007-2012, and and Shutterfly Inc. (Nasdaq:SFLY) from 2016-2019. She served as Compensation Committee Chair  on all three boards. She is an advisor to several start-up companies and consults with corporate clients. In 2018 she was credentialed by the NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) as a NACD Board Leadership Fellow and is a faculty member of their Director Professionalism program. She was honored in 2020 by NACD in the Directorship 100 as one of the 50 most influential corporate directors.

In the non-profit world, Sartain has served on the Board of AARP since 2014 and was elected to the Vice Chair position in 2016 and the First Vice Chair in 2018. She currently serves as Chair of the AARP Foundation. Sartain also served as chairman of the board of the Society for Human Resource Management in 2001 and was named fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources in 1998.  She has served on the the Board of SHRM Foundation from 2013 to 2021 and was Chairman in 2018-2019. She was a Trustee for the NAHR Foundation for many years. She has held multiple leadership positions with local nonprofits and church organizations.

She holds an MBA from the University of North Texas and a BBA from Southern Methodist University. She was named by Human Resources Executive as one of the 25 most powerful women in HR in 2005.

She resides on a ranch near Bastrop, Texas, about 30 miles from Austin.
